Come after Me: Family is a disciple of Jesus Christ: The presentation Mystery
"Behold the Lamb of God!" Rev. Deacon Luchesi proclaims from the pulpit of OLPH Church on 2nd ordinary Sunday of the year. His homily followed by the Gospel, which explained the perspectives of John the Baptist witness to messiah. He broke the phrase, "Behold the Lamb of God" in various dimensions of scripture, history, Aramaic language, authorities at the time, people and their beliefs at the time. He further, explained what it means to us today in applying gospel to our time. He zoomed on three conceptual meaning of behold the Lamb of God, including, Child of God, Servant of God, and lamb of God.
As he was breaking down the meaning of the gospel reading on Sunday, I visualized the beauty of the family, the majesty of the family, the dignity of the family, which is elevated and ordained to the function of presentation of the gospel to the people, which is the service modeled by the holy family, presentation mystery. The mind blowing concepts he explained that exposed the meaning of the scripture to the ordinary people like me and it took us to the levels of understanding, where we have no access otherwise. I thank God for Deacon Luchesi and his family for his ordained ministry of presentation of the Gospel. I thank Deacon for his service as he and his family serve as a model for the family's discipleship role in ordained ministry, in my writing.
I continue my reflection on the family's discipleship role in the presentation mystery. Ordained deacons are married ministers of the Church, who are the model of presentation mystery of family. In my understanding, their function is to proclaim and present the Gospel to the people. They are send to preach the word of God among the people by the Church, ordained by the Most. Rev. Bishops. They function under the guidance of the parish priests in serving in the ministry of word.
At present, from our parish, we have two precious and beautiful families studying and journeying towards this ordained ministry of Deacon-ship, which is a marvelous and wonderful call from the Church and God. Mr. Phil Moore and and Shonna Moore and Mr. Micheal and Mrs. Sarah are the two families under formation education under the guidance of Rev. Monsignor. Creary and Most Rev. Bishop Terry Steib. I thank God for theses families and we continue to pray for their formation and ordination. These families represent symbol of piety, dedication, devotion, and thirst in presenting gospel and they serve as model for my reflection on presentation mystery. I thank Micheal and Sarah for their dedication for God's ministry and posing for a beautiful photo, which you see in this blog. This couple portray the majesty of the family in God's service, so does the family of Phill and Shonna. Let us keep them in our prayers as they journey in the formation education under Most. Rev. Bishop Terry Steib. Most. Rev. Bishop is an effective teacher, who is a natural scholar and a model of service, a rare combination of qualities, a valiant disciple of God and defender of faith. In our parish, these student Deacons are also naturally placed in the mentorship of Rev. Msgr. Edwin Creary, who is a model of piety and service and he is a valiant defender of family values. Rev. Msgr also values ordained Deacons services very highly, which I witnessed first hand, when I went to him for the discussion on my books on Priesthood series, many year ago. When we discussed on my third book on that series, which highlights the priesthood call of family, he advised me so enthusiastically, " Do not forget about the Deacons" , which I still remember.
There are thousands of families all around the world have dedicated themselves for the presentation mystery service. They not only stand as a model of holy Matrimony but also a witness to gospel. In their call, functions, and role, family finds its majesty and glory of presentation. Ordained deacons bring the gifts of their family life as a whole and present it at the altar at the service of God's people, which is a action faith. At the same time, they dedicate themselves at the altar as a family unit to serve the presentation mystery of Gospel to the people.
