In the stanza one sixty seven, the poet (Rev. Fr. Beschi) he
celebrates Jerusalem associating with the glorious reign of King David. He
praises that king David reign in Jerusalem was in glory, as the life to the
body. His kingdom was majestic, dynamic, joyful, and filled with happiness. The
kingdom was strong and fearsome to the enemies. It was adorned with victories
and praiseworthy and beyond the praises of the writers and poets. In the stanza one sixty eight, the poet continues to praise the King David’s physical attributes and
qualities. The king had a loving and compassionate heart towards all lives. He
was charitable like ever giving rain. His chest was decorated with garlands of
beautiful flowers. His strong and rounded shoulders were adorned with golden
jewelries.
After the depiction of Jerusalem, the poet
praises the reign and qualities of King David, which is logical in paving
foundational context for the birth of Joseph, as Joseph was born in the line of
the king David. The poet visualized King David as a strong, kind, and loving
king. He praises king’s reign as glorious and praise worthy. Here the poet used
a Tamil tradition to praise the king. In Tamil Nadu, kings had poets in their
courts, who would keep the history and victories of king in songs and poems. Traditionally, a glorious king would have the qualities of kind heartedness and charitable to his people and fearsome to the enemies at battle. Such kings will have places in peoples’ heart and praised by writers and poets and their history will be archived in the stones and palm leaves in the form of songs and poems. Here, in Thembavani, the poet (Rev. Fr. Beschi) depicted King David with ideal qualities of a great king, who is praiseworthy along with the ideal qualities. Further, when he described the physical attributes of the king David, the poet has used decorative garlands on the chest and Jewelries on the shoulders, which were tradition for any king throughout the world, however flowered garland and shoulder jewelries were very unique to Tamil tradition indicating victory and wealth. Thus, the poet has visualized and praised King David in the tradition of Tamil culture, which is really extraordinary and that is Rev. Fr. Beschi’s expertise. He was a master of cultural amalgamation and application in his ministry.
