Allow me to ponder Jesus days when He walked this earth as a human. Jesus had a soft heart for mothers. Of all the intercessions, the intercessions of mothers made for their children were answered. He granted their wishes and performed many miracles on their behalf. When, I think of the miracles He performed at the request of human Mothers for their children,that makes me to see the merciful heart of God for mothers. When I think that Jesus granted the prayers of the mothers, it gives me hope in mothers' prayers.
Mother's prayers are valiant immunity to the children against the wickedness and snares of the devil. Mothers' prayers have capacity to move Jesus's heart. Mothers' prayers have power to mobilize the faith where human interventions have no use. Mothers' intercessions are heard by Jesus with most attention, as mothers have genuine love for their children.
When I say mothers, I include fathers too. There is no motherhood without a father. Motherhood gets its self actualization with the support of the fatherhood. Motherhood transforms to its fullness with the participation and support of the fatherhood. Prayers of mothers are so valiant, so powerful in the conversion and protection of children, even when they have fledged from the nest.
There is no limit or end to a mothers' prayers. Mothers' prayers for children exist as long as she lives, whether children acknowledge it or not appreciate it or not and it is beyond human understanding. Human motherhood goes beyond maternal instincts. A mother is a mother always in good times and in bad times. The only soul who will accept, forgive, and love the children unconditionally always is a mother's heart. This applies to all the human mothers.
While reflecting the mystery of Jesus's agony in the garden, I reflect upon Jesus's instructions to the disciples. He asked them to pray with Him, He requested them to be awake. In addition, He also asked them to be awake and pray. Agony in the garden centers on a theme of prayer, vigilant, and continuous prayer. Human family faces multiple challenges time to time when and where there may be agony within the family. The hope of redemption is in Jesus's instructions, including, waiting with Him in prayers, being watchful in prayers, and persevere in prayers. These prayers have deliverance capacity in the mercy and grace of God in His time.
Mother of God, who is the Mother of all, was a brave mother. She waited in prayer throughout her life with Jesus. In the natural sense, every mother celebrates her children, to the extend she becomes the cheer leader of her children. Mother provides nourishment, nurturing care, unconditional love, and she readily forgives.
We have another mother, who is our heavenly mother, the Mother of God, who is our divine mother, mother of our faith and mother of all creation in Jesus Christ. While human mothers interceded for their children's needs, our heavenly mother interceded for the family and their children's needs, as she did at the wedding of Cannon. While human mothers prayers were answered by Jesus by His mercy in His time, our heavenly mother's intercession brought the answers in faith even, when Jesus thought His time has not yet arrived, which is an extraordinary fulfillment of mother''s request. While human mothers' intercessions were natural, heavenly mother the Mother of God's intercessions was supernatural, in which Jesus turned water into wine, which was His first miracle. The faith of the Mother of God moved Jesus's heart even when His time had not come? We have such a valiant eternal interceding mother. I thank God for our divine mother, Blessed Virgin Mary.
Mother is a place where a child can turn to in times of trouble, she is a open book, open door, and mother has a open heart. Motherly heart possesses the divine love for her children, which resembles a foretaste and a glimpse of God's love. Mother's will power goes beyond natural challenges to provide, protect, and love the children. Challenges are many in a mother's way of life, resulting heartaches, troubles, and agonies are many, which may be internal and external. No challenge could stand between the mother's love for her child, every challenge faced transforms the motherly love stronger and devoted for her child.
Majority of the life of a mother is consumed in the care of her children. Another beautiful quality of a mother's heart is that she prays for her children all the time. She blesses her children constantly, no matter how the children treat her or acknowledge her presence or efforts. She remains visible in front leading the children, other times, she stays behind watching the children proceed, some times she intervenes with wisdom, other times she let go without interference. Some times she remains close other times she keeps her distance and remain anonymous. Sometimes she shows caring love and other times she shows daring tough love in care. But, in all the times her heart remains close to her children. She never stop being a mother, she never stop loving and wishing her children all the best for their life.
Mother is the most generous person in the world for her children. She would bend the sky, bring the stars, and she will do any sacrifice to provide for her children. Impossibility would become possibility in her love, dry lands would become green pastures in her care, and high mountains would become valleys in her ways, thorns and thistles would become blooming meadows in her prayers. Mother is the best motivator and she knows and highlights the best of her children. Mother is a God given gift for any human. Motherhood is a wonder and an awesome gift of God. The above mentioned qualities are common for all the mothers in nature. If there is no motherhood in this world, soon the humanity would face its extinction.
Mother Mary is the role model for all the mothers. She poses the qualities of natural motherhood and the divine motherhood. Mother Mary was brave enough to care Jesus, she was also brave enough to question Him. Tough love is a necessary part of love and it comes from protective care and it has it uses in children growth.
Protective caring responsibility is a commitment given to the parents for children growth by God Himself. How many of us are brave enough to say to the children the truth when they are wrong? How many of us are brave enough to care in leading children in the right path? How many of us are committed enough to care children with responsibility of role model? In this post modern world, parents have given away their responsibility towards their children to the societal hands. Growing children need guidance, when it is not provided by parents they naturally they receive it from the world.
Responsibility and commitment to care comes through love, at times that can be hard. We love to treat children as friends, which is good to some extend, but parents can be friends but they are not friend alone. Parenthood is not a popularity contest. Mother can be a friend but she is not friend alone, she is a mother all the time. Mother's care commitment demands bravery to say the truth to the children, which involves saying the truth when they are wrong, so that children are given an opportunity to correct themselves.
Some times the mother may have to become a wounded warrior standing between her children and the world's evil to protect them. Other times she might dare to sacrifice her good image among her children, while looking after their lives. Motherhood is not a popularity contest, it takes courageous responsibility to guide and counsel the children, even when the children are uncaring in attitude, irresponsible, and in their negligence, ignorance, and self centeredness, which are common in many stories, I have read and heard. A caring mother would give her life to bring home a stranded child or to straighten the path of a crooked child.
I admire the quality of caring bravery of motherhood in Mother Mary. She was brave in questioning Jesus, when He stayed back in Jerusalem without their notice. Her question does not indicate that Jesus did something wrong, yet she wanted to clarify His purpose of doing what He did? She is the role model of love, care, commitment, and responsibility for all the mothers. There are many precious years gifted by God for mothers to be influential in their children life. They are the formation years, closeness years in the life of a family, where mother is considered as present in children's view. There is also a season from then on the mothers stand as a past in the children view, when she maintains herself as a shadow of prayers or as in a follower role, yet loving her children evermore. This period of life in a family is called as an empty nest by many cultures, I think, a mother's heart is never empty, until she dies and she never becomes an empty nest. An ideal motherhood takes pride in children creativity, independence, and even in their ego and in trial and errors as well. She admires the children evermore, when they spread their wings to fly into the world. However, this virtue does not come with out heart breaks. Motherhood withstand all the challenges of growth, time, and seasons.
A good mother knows when to let go. Letting go is a bravery act of motherhood. Mother knows in her wisdom to keep the children into the sheltering care of God, while they travel to live their life into this world. In her wisdom filled love, she let go and admire children growth from near or far, in realization that they are not just her children but also they are Children of God and they have an unique purpose in this world to fulfill.
Mother of God became that role model, once she knew from Jesus Himself that He has in His Father's house to do His will, she began her pondering life of prayerful, wakeful, watchful, and waiting life, letting Jesus to do God's will.
