Mission of Mother Church: Church is a missionary
I had a profound understanding/ conviction and deeper appreciation to the following concept, as I was teaching chapter 3 of Church and sacraments for 7th grade yesterday( PRE class), which happened to be a catechist Sunday. Catechists of our parish received special blessing during the Mass.
The chapter 3 covers the concept of church as a missionary in detail. It elaborates on St. Pauls conversion and his missionary trips and teachings focusing on Mathew 28: 18-20. "18 And Jesus came and said to them, h“All authority iin heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 jGo therefore and kmake disciples of lall nations, jbaptizing them min2 nthe name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching themoto observe all that pI have commanded you. And behold, qI am with you always, to rthe end of the age.”
Mathew 28: 18 - 20
My heart dwells/rests in the above concept and contemplates the power packed message within above versus. It is humbling to know that all of us within the church are called to be missionaries in our environment we are placed. While church's function is to be an eternal missionary, we as a body of Christ partake in the church, through the church, by our baptism become or called to be a missionary throughout our life. By this Baptism is not just a sacrament of grace but also a sacrament of responsibility. A responsibility to carry out Christ's mission in the world we live and to the time we are placed.
