Come with me: Suffering families are disciples of suffering Jesus; Fifth Sorrowful Mystery: THE CRUCIFIXION

As I reflect the crucifixion of Jesus, in the context of family life of discipleship, I am struck with awe of witnessing the glory and strength of  divine love for human and all creations. I visualize the human and divine perspectives of Jesus at this mystery. I reflect upon the human agony and cry of Jesus which can be witnessed in Jesus cry to the Father and the divine aspect of forgiveness of Jesus for all humanity and all those who hurt Him. Finally, I reflect the authority of Jesus over the life and willing surrender of life into Father's hands.

Family life of call is a purposeful, willful, surrender of love. Family love has two sides to it including human side and divine side. It has human side of sufferings as family is built by man and a woman who are human, and it has also divine side, which is the love of Holy Spirit in it. Thus suffering families have human side of suffering and the divine side of suffering. Acknowledging the will of the Holy Spirit in the midst of sufferings, and willful yielding and surrender of sufferings to the will of God, may transform the sufferings which are equal to crucifixion into resurrection. As Jesus commended His spirit into Father's hand, families who surrender and command their lives to Father's will during sufferings may become the disciple of Jesus in this world.

As, I approach the conclusion of this reflection, I witness the glory of families, that Son of God Himself came down as human and suffered Crucifixion, in redeeming the humanity and creations from the effect of first family's sin. This understanding elevates my thoughts to the noble conclusions about the families and their sanctity. Family and its struggles and sufferings are existing from the first sin. There is nothing new about the issues we try to address today in human capacity. For all the struggles of the families there is one solution that comes from the sufferings of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus suffering is the way and light of family life. Jesus suffering is the role model in approaching family struggles and weaknesses. Knowing all the human sufferings are counted at the foot of the cross brings hope and healing in return that provides strengths to carry the cross of our life.

No matter, what the world may say about family, no matter what the enemy may try to underestimate the power of  the families, no matter how the world may demerit the inherent call, dignity, sanctity, and functions of families, no matter how struggling the families are, no matter how weak the family status may appear to the world, family which walks with the crucified Lord, may endure the sufferings as the houses built on the rock in the face of storms and winds. Suffering families with Lord gain strength, hope, and healing from the Crucified Lord. There is victory in suffering. Suffering is a virtue. Suffering has meaning to redemption of individuals, families and community. The families that suffer with Jesus may partake in the resurrection of Jesus and they become the witness to the resurrected Lord, in their world life.Indeed family is a mighty testament of God's love to the world and to all creations.

I conclude prayerfully, this series of reflection on Sorrowful mystery, by praying, Father I command my spirit in thy hands, which is one of  my favorites among Jesus sayings.

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen!
