"Come after Me": Family life is a call of discipleship life to Jesus: Visitation

In my heart. I think, much has to be written about this topic, as we live in a peculiar world in a peculiar time. I say we live in a peculiar world, because we have altered the world and its atmosphere to the limits by human interventions and inventions, that it losses its originality of nature. We have done the similar alterations in family structure and life as well.

Some parts of the world have moved away from the extended family system to the nuclear family. From there, it has adopted the idea of family planning extensively to control the population, which resulted in fewer children. Many families have only one child or two conforming to the social norms. There are many issues associated with this human invention such as moral issues, economical issues, social issues etc....
Above all, this change in the nature and structure of the family has affected the natural personality of children, where children grow up in a lonely environment with selfish motives with no coping or helping mind to others. Extended families fostered the visitation qualities such as love. kindness, sharing, generosity, bonding, relationship, unity, sacrifice, responsibility, accountability  to the family and to the neighbors, which are the natural fruits of a family.  Nuclear family slowly got away with all the above mentioned qualities. Family conflicts were fewer in the extended families as they were resolved as soon as they appeared as there are always elders to guide the family through their sharing of wisdom. Nuclear family did not have this support, as parents visitation, elders support, neighbors visitation, and friends visitation became rare among these families. In this system, family lost its natural merit as it treated the relationship from the convenient approach and it became a mechanized system which has diminished value for values. Family lost its sentiments, emotional quality but it increased in its material values. Family conflicts became as a daily food, division within the family became a common phenomenon, and marriages moves towards the unstable environment. Eternity values of marriages are stained with the temporal values of materialism. You can imagine the rest of the direction and course of the modern families, which I do not want to write, which is a disintegrating and degrading status from human interventions and inventions. I am happy to note that this civilization still keeps the doors open for the neighbors. There are still villages that do not close their house door. There is still trust in human goodness. There is hope in the family values. There is trust in social norms. Above all there is still deep rooted reverence for God is present, which should be applauded.

In other parts of the world, infiltration and deep rooted rationalism, humanism, utilitarianism, atheism, etc and there are many isms prevalent. These "isms" have rejected idealism or pushed idealism to the closed door policies. Idealism has lost its value and use. Presence of God and acknowledgement of God's creation are challenged constantly. Society has imprisoned their family and its goodness within the air condition, locked doors, and locked hearts. Family visitations are limited to those who are invited. No one show to the door without calling or without appointment. More astringent prescriptive social norms are followed in-terms of family visitations. Some degree of fear of human is prevalent throughout this culture. This has resulted in the skepticism and criticism as the first line of thoughts in human mind. Families have attained material glory, but its stability and structures are challenged constantly. Human relationships are challenged and some of the natural rights of the families are controlled by the social norms. Parents guidance rights for their children are prescribed and challenged constantly. Spousal natural conflicts, which could heal naturally, if given time and let alone, such situations, are not given enough opportunities to heal, due to the social pressures, material pressures, and peer pressures, which comes from the fast paced self motivated life style. Intimacy of the family life is often sold for the material gain to the media or scattered into the streets of courts and law for petty reasons. Families have gone to the extremes and they are pushed to the brink of losing its sanctity. Natural foundation structure, roles, and functions  of the family are challenged constantly by the society. The above observation may sound hopeless, however  this culture shows its goodness when they function collectively for the world cause. There is hope for the families in this culture because there are multitudes of God fearing dedicated families are present within this culture. These families are frequently belong to the faith communities, they serve as the light to the community. There is hope in this culture, because the Church is fervent in its belief of faith, hope, and charity. The Church is a visible and tangible hope for the families in this culture. Family values, sanctity are promoted and protected by the Church and faith community, which is a blessing.

In this juncture, family's visitation role has root in the discipleship life of Jesus. Family evangelizing another family through its existence, essence, sharing, and charity is a natural way discipleship life. The family which is deep rooted in the life of faith through the Church brings hope for the community. The visitation mystery reveals the collaboration of Church and the families in bringing hope to the hurting world.
