Highlights of Irudhaya Annai Church: Periasamypuram
Northern street of Periyasamypuram house the Servite convent, where 8 to 10 nun sisters reside. Sisters are very active in the spiritual matters of this village. From the altar decorations, maintenance of the church, educating children via school, catechism, house visits, training youth in cottage industries etc........
Endless avenue they open for this village. I am very surprised to see the non participatory sisters in the church in these days. Is church is not using them? I wonder what happened? They are the real salt of the church, who have fostered rich catechism in the church. I always say passionately if we do not cherish them and invite their participation and visibility in the chuch we may loose such a great gift of our Catholic church. Servite convent sisters are great in education and teaching catechism to the children. They have made a great impression in my childhood heart and all the children of periasamypuram. Nun Sisters continue to make difference in youth life throughout the world through their relentless deication and service by their presence and activities, life and role model. . You could view a glimpse in the following poem. We children after the school hours we were part of the church functions and activities through the education we received from theses sisters. If we see a nun sister/s today let us take a moment to thank her/ them today for their dedication to our church. My next writing series is about the Mother Church and its redemptive presence. They are titled as, "Come with me", "Keep Watch with me" and "I will be with you always." In these three book series, I contemplate, reflect the Church presence in the natural world. In these writings Nun sisters and their contributions are waiting to be penned as mother Church is the bride of Our Lord Jesus christ. Our church cannot afford to loose these holy women. Let us promote and foster vocation among young girls for this great call. Femine concepts, mother sentiments etc........ all are waiting to be penned. Exciting journey I have embarked in. I am in discerning phase and praying phase, and biblical study phase now for this journey in 2012. These books will be available for next Christmas. I request your prayers for me.
Currently, I invite you to read Trinity Series( Tree of Life, Spirit of Life, and Creative Life) The three book series on Holy Trinity. Excellent series for the purpose of Spiritual gift for youth and adults. Make these books as your Christmas gift item of this year.Books are available at: LULu.com
The following lyric poem contains the reflection on the Sisters of Servite Convent influence on school children spirituality in Periasamypuram
River : walk with Sr. Pepin
Month of May
Holds numerous beautiful memories
Of my childhood years
Then we were in the middle school
Fifth, Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders
All in the choir
Daily practice rigor
In the care of Sr. Pepin
Sr. Pepin is known for
Tough love among the sisters
Some of us could shiver at her site
Such a discipline she laid
For the children to follow
But she is tender in heart
In the love of children
She treated us all as her own children
Our parents would
Never question Sr. Pepin discipline
Focused on our spiritual growth
She laid her hard work
In my latter day spirituality
Daily attendance of choir is must
Three to four is the practice
Four to five is the altar decoration
Five to six we will return home
To comeback for vespers at 6.30pm
Where we made some heavenly musics
As children with Sr. Pepin
This was our routine
For the month of May
One-day sister looked happy
She made us to help
Packing eatables in a picnic bag
What about choir practice?
Asked the older student
Sister smiled with no answer
Many other sisters joined us
Sister Pepin then revealed
We are to walk on the riverbank
As the priest is out of station
On that day
Children went in excitement
As sisters all gathered around
We began to walk towards the river
As we walked, we prayed
With Sr. Pepin
Journey in prayer
In the midst of nature
At the banks of river
Sr. Pepin led us
All along the way
People wished Sr. Pepin
Farmers from the palm tree tops
Fishermen saluted
Sisters cheering
Wished her in their loud voices
All knew her
We walked with Sr. Pepin proudly
Along the river bank
Tiny tides of salty river
Kissed the land time to time
Salty sea breeze
Gentle evening
Mingled the joy in children hearts
Sighting schools of fish
Nesting shrimp pools
Were the spectacular site
Of the river
There in the river bank
Sr. Pepin spread the blanket
Children gathered around her
We shared the sweets and eatables
Chatting little stories
We walked and prayed
Talked and laughed
Shared the food together
At the river bank
With Sr. Pepin.
